SHENZHEN won a total of 34 awards at the 2018 Guangdong Science and Technology Awards that ended recently.
The winning projects cover the electronic information, advanced manufacturing, high-tech services, biology and new pharmacy, new materials, resources and environment sectors. Among them, 10 projects are from the electronic information sector, accounting for 29 percent of the total. Seven projects are from the biology and new pharmacy sector, accounting for 21 percent of the total. The projects demonstrate the city’s R&D capabilities in the two sectors.
Among the awards, seven items won first prizes, accounting for 14 percent of the total first-prize awards. Five items won in the natural science category, four in technological invention and 25 in science and technology advancements.
Research by Wang Liping, a researcher at the Brain Research Institute of Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technologies under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, won the first prize in natural science. The research offers a solution to precision intervention in epilepsy. Research by Zheng Hairong, vice head of the institute, won the first prize in technological invention. The rapid imaging system using superconductive magnet and resonance key technologies is the first 3.0T system successfully developed by Chinese people.
The institute won a total of four prizes. Shenzhen University won five second prizes in natural science.
Enterprises like ZTE, Huawei and Han’s Laser also won prizes for their research. (Han Ximin)
